There’s nothing I love more than planning meals around grilling in the summer. It’s quick to prep, even quicker to clean up, and in my opinion, grilled meat tastes 100% better than meat cooked all other ways. This recipe for easy honey garlic grilled chicken skewers is my go-to and the perfect option for an easy weeknight dinner.

How to Make Honey Garlic Chicken Skewers
You can watch the step-by-step tutorial on my Instagram.
- Make the marinade: Add all ingredients to a large bowl and stir to combine.
- Marinate the chicken: Add the cubed chicken to the bowl with the marinade, stir to combine until all are evenly coated. Ideally, you’ll want to marinate the chicken for at least 1 hour to overnight.
- Soak the skewers, if using bamboo: these are the bamboo skewers I use, and here’s a great metal option if you want something reusable.
- Assemble the skewers: gently slide the marinated chicken cubes onto the skewers.
- Grill the chicken skewers: place on the hot grill and cook for 12-15 minutes total, turning halfway
- Add the garnish: Just before serving, sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley, mint, or basil. Serve warm.

Tips for Success
Overall, this recipe is super simple but there are a few things that will make a big difference in the preparation and cooking:
- Cut chicken into uniform pieces for even grilling
- Don’t skip soaking the skewers if using wood (this prevents burning)
- Preheat the grill for a good sear
- Baste with extra marinade (set some aside beforehand)
- Use a meat thermometer (165°F internal temp)
Variations & Substitutions
This recipe can be made with a number of swaps and variations, depending on your preference and what you have on hand. Here are a few of my favourites:
- Swap soy sauce for coconut aminos for a gluten-free version
- Use boneless chicken thighs for extra juiciness
- Add veggies to skewers (bell peppers, red onion, zucchini)
- Make it spicy with chili flakes or sriracha

What to Serve With Chicken Skewers
All you’ll need for a well-rounded meal is some type of simple side dish or salad! Here are a few of my go to’s:
- Herby potato salad
- Grilled corn or summer vegetables
- Rice or couscous
- A fresh green salad with vinaigrette
