Welcome to the second post in the home updates series! Where I show you the “finished” spaces in our home as they finally come together. I say “finished” in quotations because, in my home, no space is ever truly finished (*raise your hand if you’re also a chronic re-arranger*). The purpose of this series is to share the progress of our home as we pull spaces together and to give you ideas for your own spaces. In this post, I hope you’ll walk away with some great home office ideas!
You can check out the first post in the home update series here, where I shared all the details of our dining room.

Home Office Ideas | The Process
This space in our home is one of the areas that I struggled with the most. I work from home running my private counselling practice, Fleurish Counselling, and this blog, Fleurish Collective. So I knew that I needed an office space that felt inspiring, comfortable, and calming. Both for myself and for my virtual counselling clients. I spent A LOT of time browsing different home office ideas but nothing felt quite right.
Originally, I planned to keep this room painted white. However; almost all of my furniture was white with light oak tones and no matter what configuration I tried, everything kept feeling flat. I decided quite a while ago that I wanted to paint this room, but I was really nervous about choosing a colour that felt right.
This room gets very little natural light so it’s quite dark at all times of day. Sometimes our natural instinct for darker rooms is to paint them a light and bright colour to compensate. However; in my experience, these types of spaces almost always feel better if we lean into darker colours. It creates this intimate and cozy experience.
That instinct was spot on for this space. As soon as the paint dried, it finally felt perfect. I also decided to add in a cozy reading chair, to make the office better suited to my work and days. I now love working and reading in this room at all hours of the day. But it’s especially cozy in the early mornings with a coffee in a hand, a candle lit and a good book to curl up with in that corner.
I still have two more updates I hope to do in the coming days: 1) purchase an actual desk chair with better support; and 2) swap out the overhead light fixture for something more my taste.
I can’t wait to continue watching this space evolve but for right now, I couldn’t be happier with it!
