For the longest time, I’ve wanted to upgrade the kitchen island pendant lights. When we built our house back in 2021, we went with the home building package that included all of the lighting in the cost. I didn’t particularly like any of the lighting options provided by our builder so the plan was to slowly, over the next few years, replace the lighting throughout the house.
One spot at a time, I’d find something that better suited my taste and sell the “stock option” on Facebook Marketplace. This allowed me to 1) take my time and really hone in on fixtures I loved; and 2) make the process less of a financial strain.
And the wait was totally worth it! These pendant lights are exactly what I dreamed of and every time I walk into the kitchen now, they make me smile.
The pendants I chose are crafted from an unglazed matte porcelain with a glazed interior and a ceramic canopy. They comes in four different colourways, all beautiful and timeless (and all linked below). Ours are the ‘shadow’ colour.
These ceramic pendants are such a statement with the most beautiful ribbed details. The maker is a small Canadian lighting shop (LYS Lightlab) and this particular design was inspired by the peaks of the Italian mountains and the calming beauty of nature – which felt especially serendipitous after our incredible trip to Italy last fall.

When it comes to home decor and home design, good things take time. I know that waiting isn’t always easy, especially if it’s something you’re excited to upgrade, but it will be so much sweeter when that time finally comes.
I browsed pendant lighting for the longest time before finally deciding on these ones. And it was worth the wait! Something I’ve always stood by when it comes to all things home decor, is that it’s better to go without for longer than it is to buy something of a lesser quality just to get it sooner. If you can get clear on what you love and what you really want, hold out for that. You’ll love it all the more and that will make it feel truly timeless.
