Bedding FAQ
What is the best bedding to sleep in?
The answer to this question is more a matter of preference and also your needs. When considering which bedding is best for you, it’s helpful to reflect on what your sleeping needs are. If you tend to run hot, look for cooling technologies or more breathable materials. If you tend to run cold, look for heavier materials that provide more insulation.
Can duvets be machine washed?
Without a doubt, duvets can and should be machine mashed. The best way to wash your duvet is to place it in the washing machine with one third the amount of laundry detergent you would typically use. Run the washer on a delicate cycle with cold or warm water. After the first cycle is complete, it’s a good idea to run it through a second time on a quick cycle with no soap. This will ensure all detergent residue is rinsed from the down inside. You can place most duvets in the dryer on tumble dry low. Double check the instructions for your particular duvet as this may vary from product to product.
How often should bedding be washed?
In general, sheet sets and pillowcases should be washed every 1-2 weeks to prevent the accumulation of dust, bacteria, sweat, and dead skin cells in the fibres of your bedding. This can lead to breakouts, eczema, acne, and skin itchiness, among other things. Whereas, duvets and duvet covers can be washed less frequently, but should still be cleaned seasonally at minimum.
Best bedding material for winter?
If you are a cold sleeper, look for bedding products that are on the heavier side. Specifically, more insulating materials such as cotton, flannel, heavy down, cashmere, or wool will trap more heat and create a bed that feels warm and cozy.
Best bedding for hot sleepers?

How important is thread count?
By and large, thread count is something many misunderstand. Although the price-point often increases alongside the higher thread counts, the quality does not. A higher thread count does not mean a product will be better; in fact, the ideal thread count for sheets is typically between 300-500. At any rate, avoid sheets that have a thread count lower than 150 and higher than 600. The quality of the materials used and the craftsmanship of the product are two factors that will make the biggest difference in how your bedding feels and how it holds up over time.
How many sets of sheets should I have?
If you have at least two sets of sheets, the task of washing and changing bedding becomes less daunting. I recommend taking your sheets off the bed, tossing them in the laundry, and immediately re-making your bed with that second set. For one thing, the immediate gratification of seeing a freshly made up bed feels like an accomplishment in itself. Secondly, your future self will be grateful when you don’t have to make the bed late at night when you realize your sheets are still in the dryer.
