We are finally settled in Lethbridge in our tiny basement apartment where we’ll be living for the next few months while the house is being built! The last month was an absolute whirlwind between wrapping up with both of our jobs, packing up the house in Regina, the big move and then getting set up in Lethbridge! But we survived and now I’m feeling so ready to dig in with the blog and start creating more content to share with you all! I had shared in this post my plan to do a mood board for each room – I thought it would be such a fun way to let you in on more of the process of creating my vision for the new house, choosing finishes and also a nice journal for myself of everything! So without further ado, here is the bathroom mood board!
The Bathroom Vision
I wanted the bathroom to have a spa-like and timeless feel. Something that felt clean and neutral with purposeful design elements. I am mildly obsessed with taking baths so knew I wanted the bathroom to feel elevated and relaxing because I spend a lot of time unwinding in there.
My Must-Have
I also knew I wanted to incorporate a herringbone pattern somewhere in our new house but I went back and forth on where to use it. I finally decided to put it in the bathroom surrounding the bathtub. We’re going with a simple white tile with white grout to make it look clean and it’s one of the things I’m most excited to see come to life as the house progresses.
Colours, Textures & Materials
For the floors, I decided to go with large, black matte, hexagon tiles with grey grout. I’ve always loved the idea of black floors in the bathroom and since everything else is fairly light and bright, I thought this would be a nice pairing. I didn’t want extreme contrast between the tile and grout so I didn’t use white grout and I also didn’t want the tiles to blend together, so that ruled out black grout. Grey felt like a happy medium to create some separation between the tiles while also somewhat blending in.
For the vanity, we are doing white shaker-style cabinets with a plain white quartz countertop. We upgraded to a marble pattern in the kitchen but didn’t feel the need to do that in the bathroom too. The backsplash on the vanity will match the bathtub so it will also be the white herringbone tile. We also are using black hardware in the bathrooms – for the hardware on the vanity and for the handles/faucets in the bathtub and sink.
We decided early on that lighting would be something we would upgrade down the road and we just went with one of the standard options for each area of the house. It’s something that we plan to change but we aren’t in a hurry to do so. The fixtures in the bathroom are black as well so they will blend in with the rest of the aesthetic you see on the bathroom mood board.
For the décor elements I envision fresh or dried eucalyptus, a collection of delicate glass vintage jars to hold bathroom essentials (cotton swabs, q-tips, etc.), and maybe a piece of vintage art. I’m also on the hunt for the perfect lamp for the counter – I think a globe lamp like the one in the bathroom mood board would be the perfect addition so I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled online for something like that. I also hope to upgrade our linens at some point once we’re in the new house so they feel as luxurious as the space.
